A journey using exciting medical cases to help develop our diagnostic and therapeutic skills
Veterinarians must make rapid decisions every day about diagnostic and treatment options for their patients. While a sound knowledge base appropriate to the case is essential, clinical reasoning skills form the cornerstone of those decisions around prioritisation of tests and procedures. Our overall knowledge base also must include an understanding of important pathophysiological principles relevant to the patient's clinical problem. However, knowing the facts is not the same thing as knowing what to do. Knowledge is only useful if it can be accessed, formulated and applied to the problem at hand.
In this lecture we will use a case based approach to enhance your clinical reasoning skills as well as your knowledge base and understanding. The lecture is entirely case based rather than subject based so that clinical thinking can be articulated clearly and important knowledge relevant to the cases presented in an appropriate context. Each case discussion will cover the logical approach to one or more clinical signs, interpretation of clinical pathology and other diagnostic aids appropriate to the case and, where relevant, management options. The case discussions will also provide you with the opportunity to explore particular clinical questions of interest.
Food will be served at 7pm, lecture begins 7:30pm
