Talk by Tom Cave BVSc MSc(Clin Onc) DSAM MRCVS

RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

After graduating as a vet from the University of Bristol in 1996, Tom spent 4 years in mixed private practice in the South West gaining the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 1999. He then moved to the University of Glasgow as a resident in Clinical Oncology and Haematology where he became Senior Clinical Oncologist.

Tom was awarded the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Medicine in 2004 and his MSc in Clinical Oncology from the Cancer Research UK Institute for Cancer Studies at Birmingham University in 2005. In 2004 Tom and his wife Claire started a medicine/oncology referral service which they grew to a large multidisciplinary referral service. They sold Cave Veterinary Specialists in 2018 and Tom now devotes his vet time to working for VVS, peripatetic referral work as Lazarus Vet Specialists, and as a trustee for the Animal Cancer Trust.

Managing diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats can be challenging – not least because several of the complications can be iatrogenic and morbidity from unstable diabetes can significantly impact a patient and their owner’s quality of life. Thankfully, consistency and following several, simple management rules can usually lead to the best outcome. This talk will be both practical and pragmatic with case examples and primarily aims to support you in managing these cases whilst outlining when specialist support from an internal medic may be beneficial.

Held at: The Cadeleigh Arms, Cadeleigh, Devon, EX16 8HP

Kindly sponsored by: MSD Animal Health
