Online talk by Nick Perkins BVSc CertCHP MRCVS. Nick qualified in 1989, spent five years in mixed practice in Devon before moving to concentrate on dairy cattle work in Somerset. From early in his career, Nick developed a keen interest in goats and worked with several large dairy goat herds as well as the usual client mix of pet and small pedigree goat keepers. Nick joined the Goat Veterinary Society as a member early in his practising life, later joining the committee where he is currently President. After 24 years in practice, Nick joined the Veterinary Defence Society as a Farm Animal Claims Consultant.
With Covid still grumbling and second waves rolling towards our shores, our clients (already fractious) are spending too long at their computers where they vent their frustrations in all directions, including poor vets. On top of that we are having to find new ways of working with social distancing and separate groups of workers to be able to continue to provide a service in the event Coronavirus hits one of the team. All of this is the perfect combination for generating claims and complaints. Nevertheless, we will explore the measures we can take to minimise claims and complaints; and when that fails, look at how to handle them so that we can emerge the other side relatively unscathed.
Held via Zoom.
